A new website called globalitunes.com has popped up with an interesting solution to the problems faced by Apple fans worldwide desperate to get updates and media for their new ipods and itouches.
What’s the problem? Well you can’t blame Apple for wanting to make money, but their approach to dividing the world up into different iTunes stores has been a headache for many with most countries iTunes stores having much less content than the US version (and that’s if you’re lucky enough to have an iTunes store in your country at all!).
Globalitunes.com has come up with a novel solution to this problem and that seems to be gift certificates. It turns out that if you use a US iTunes gift certificate when registering a new account then you don’t need a US credit card, or in fact any credit card at all. This of course means you can setup your iTunes account from anywhere in the world.
You may be wondering though who really is desperate enough to have a US iTunes gift card shipped all the way around the world just to shop at the US iTunes. Well this is where the good part is. They will email you the code that is printed on the gift card, so within a few minutes you can have your account setup and be shopping in the US iTunes store.
The setup guide on their website explains all there is to know, but it really is that simple. You pay for the gift certificate, they email you the code, you enter it into the iTunes store and… well.. that’s it, your shopping!
The website sells iTunes credit in increments between; to 0 and at the time of writing they are currently having a sale giving discounts on each gift certificate you purchase of up. Who doesn’t like a discount?
The conclusion – A simple and quick solution to being an Apple fan living outside the United States, but be careful, the US iTunes store can become addictive!
